The roof is on fire! Not because of Mrs. Hughes nifty new toaster, but the shenanigans Tom’s been up to in Ireland. We’re almost more shocked than Lord Grantham–even if it *was* an ugly castle.

Even more shocking, Isobel can’t stop saying the P-word, Thomas is making eyes at the new footman, and an Earl’s daughter is getting published in the Times (go Team Edith).

Will Bates ever get back to his beloved Anna, will Matthew ever get Mary preggers, and will Daisy ever get a break? Grab a boullion spoon–no, not the jam spoon, the boullion spoon–and join The Ladies for another rowdy podcast.

We rejoin the Crawleys on what should be the happiest day in Edith’s life, but which instead ends in heartbreak, although we’re relieved Edith doesn’t go all Miss Havisham on us.

We also discuss that letter that mysteriously appears to explain absolutely everything, wonder what on earth Mary was thinking going downstairs with her hair still in a braid, and whether anyone upstairs actually knows who Daisy is. We look forward to some escalating nastiness between Thomas and O’Brien, and wonder whether Ethel will ever learn how to sew

Will the newly single Edith run off to a London adventure? Will Mr. Pamuk’s twin brother (who we just made up) sweep her off her feet? Can we get someone to write some fanfic, stat? And will Robert and Matthew’s new partnership save Downton or cause unseemly repressed English friction over dinner.

Pour yourself one of those new cocktails and enjoy the podcast!

The society ladies are back, diving into the roaring ’20s along with the residents of Downton Abbey. When last we left, Matthew and Mary had just (finally) gotten themselves engaged. We discuss the inevitable drama before actually getting them to the altar, Edith’s schemes to have a wedding of her very own, and the return of married Sybil—for whom pregnancy does not seem to be kind, if her hair is any indication.

There are also new characters to judge! Will Cora’s mother be able to go quip-for-quip with the Dowager? Will Martha’s maid show these uptight English girls how American babes do it? Will the freakishly tall new footman pass muster with Carson?

All this, plus some REAL TALK about sex among the genteel rich, several brilliant ideas for possible future spin-offs (we’ll be looking for our royalty checks, Julian), and tons of predictions for the upcoming season. Will the Crawleys soon be POOR?!?!?! Stay tuned with us this season to find out!

EPISODE 2 [Season 2, Episode 1]
WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT EDITH

The Auxiliary Society breaks down the first episode of Season 2 where the war comes to Downton and shakes up the sleepy gentility.

Beyond offering intelligent deconstruction of the themes, the ladies discuss if Edith is truly is a bitch, whether O’Brien is still a virgin, the tragedy of having to button your own buttons, an O’Brien and Thomas YouTube tribute video, and if Sir Carlisle and Mary have as deep of love as the Clintons.

In Episode 1 of Downton Gabby, O’Brien was voted most “startling to see in modern clothes”…here you go Rachael, straight hair and all. Confused? Listen to Episode 1 and join in on the joke.

I want to party with this woman.
